“Having to move my parents from their Florida home back to Kentucky when my mother’s health was rapidly failing was extremely stressful. I researched and visited eight assisted living centers in Louisville, Shelbyville, and Frankfort. I knew my search was over when I walked in the door of Amber Oaks. While the others appeared to be professionally run businesses, Amber Oaks felt like walking into someone’s living room. The staff and residents were friendly and I could sense right away genuinely cared for one another. During my tour, I saw right away that it was a neighborhood where folks knew each other’s grandkids names, cared about who was feeling under the weather, and a friend stopping by another friend’s door to say, “I sure can’t wait for that peach pie for dessert tonight, can you?”. So in 2014, Mom and Dad moved in. It was a big step for them to leave their home. But within just a couple of weeks, Mom was getting better. Dad was less stressed. That was in 2014. We lost mom in 2018 but had her for much longer and at a much happier quality of life than her Florida doctors had anticipated. The reason was obvious – the care and attention she received in her new home and from her new extended family of caregivers. Dad has been given such loving support in the years since when he chose to stay in “his home”. Now that his health issues are increasing I have the same peace of mind that his every need is being met. Most impressive of all is the honor the “grands” are all given for the wisdom and life experience they bring to the Amber Oaks family. Their gifts, hobbies, and talents are appreciated, encouraged, and highlighted. Every person who calls Amber Oaks home knows they are important and have a purpose to share with others. This has been vital to my father’s mental and emotional well-being which in turn has benefited his physical health.
I am ever grateful to Dean Windsor and the entire AO staff. Amber Oaks is not “a home”. It’s simply HOME.”
